Oil Still Dark After Filtering
Possible Causes:
- Oil was already heavily degraded before using PuriMax.
- Filter process was too short or skipped.
- Excess carbon buildup in the fryer was not cleaned prior to filtering.
Solutions:
- Start using PuriMax when your oil is still in good condition — preventative care delivers the best results.
- Make sure you run a full filtering cycle with the recommended contact time.
- Perform a deep clean of your fryers before first use of PuriMax, and periodically thereafter.
Food Still Tastes Off
Possible Causes:
- Strong flavors from previously fried foods are still in the oil.
- Excess breakdown products (free fatty acids) present from prolonged oil use.
Solution:
- Use PuriMax daily as part of your end-of-day filtration to prevent flavor transfer.
- Avoid mixing sweet and savory items in the same oil if possible.
- If oil has been used far beyond normal lifespan, replace it, clean fryer, then resume PuriMax use.
No Visible Improvement in Oil Life
Possible Causes:
- Too little powder used for oil volume.
- Filtering skipped on some days.
- Oil change intervals already too short to see measurable improvement.
Solutions:
- Verify you’re using one 5oz pouch per standard 5-gallon fryer oil capacity.
- Use PuriMax consistently every day — occasional use won’t deliver full results.
- Track oil changes for two weeks and compare to baseline before judging results.
Powder Clumps or Doesn’t Disperse
Possible Causes:
- Added powder after oil cooled too much.
- Clumped powder from moisture exposure during storage.
Solutions:
- Add PuriMax while oil is still hot during the filtering process for optimal dispersion.
- Keep pouches sealed and stored in a dry location — do not refrigerate or expose to humidity.
Filter Machine Clogs
Possible Causes:
- Excessive debris in fryer from lack of skimming.
- Oil contains heavy sediment from extended use before filtering.
Solutions:
- Skim food particles from oil during the day to prevent build-up.
- Use fryer screens or crumb catchers to reduce debris entering the filter system.
Cloudy Oil After Filtering
Possible Causes:
- Powder not fully removed due to worn or damaged filter media.
- Filtering process too quick to allow binding to occur.
Solutions:
- Inspect and replace filter media as needed.
- Ensure oil is circulated long enough for PuriMax to bind with impurities before draining.
Oil Level is Low After Filtering
Possible Causes:
- Significant oil loss from splashing, over-skimming, or high evaporation during cooking.
- Excess food debris absorbing oil during frying.
- Leaks or drips from fryer drain valves or plumbing.
Solutions:
- Check fryer for leaks and repair as needed.
- Avoid over-skimming, which can remove usable oil along with debris.
- Top off with fresh oil after filtering to maintain optimal fryer levels and temperature recovery times.
TPM (Total Polar Materials) Spikes
Problems:
- Oil was already at or near end-of-life before adding PuriMax.
- Poor daily maintenance — skipping filtering allows polar materials to build up quickly.
- High-moisture foods or batter-heavy items accelerating oil breakdown.
Solutions:
- Begin using PuriMax on fresh oil for maximum TPM control.
- Filter oil daily and skim debris throughout service.
- Adjust menu item rotation to reduce excessive load on fryers from high-moisture products.
What’s the best tool to mix PuriMax into the oil?
We suggest using a wide, flat tool that moves the oil in a circular “whirlpool” motion for even distribution. A rectangular mesh skimmer works perfectly, helping the powder blend quickly without clumping.
